(Minneapolis, MN) — For the first time since 2003, the Golden Gophers will host the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships when competition gets underway on Friday at the University of Minnesota Track and Field Stadium. This is the first true “showcase” event for the new facility located on the U of M campus near Athletes Village. The stadium opened in 2018, but the pandemic has somewhat restricted large scale events like this to take place in the venue.
The Golden Gopher women’s team is a title contender and has already won the Big Ten Cross Country championship and the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field title, so winning the outdoor meet would complete the “Triple Crown.” The U of M men’s team is gunning for a top three finish for a second straight year. The three-day championship meet begins at noon on Friday and runs through Sunday. Fans can buy tickets on line or by simply walking up to the stadium box office on the day of the event.
