Governor Dayton says he disagrees with N-F-L players who sat or knelt during the playing of the national anthem at games around the league yesterday. But he says he doesn’t “question their constitutional right to do so.” Dayton says “unfortunately, the president, beyond expressing his disapproval of that action has made this into a much bigger conflict than it should be .”
President Trump called for fans to boycott N-F-L games and for professional athletes to be suspended or fired for not standing for the national anthem. Today the president tweeted the hashtag “StandForOurAnthem”. He says the issue is not about race, it is about respect for “our country, flag and national anthem.” Governor Dayton did say the Vikings response Sunday–to stand and lock arms during the anthem–was appropriate.
