Governor Dayton today announced that Major General Jon Jensen will take over as new Adjutant General for the Minnesota National Guard. Jensen, who served as Commanding General of the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, replaces Major General Richard Nash who is stepping down in October. Nash had served in the roll since 2010. Jensen was selected following a review process from the governor’s appointed selection committee. In announcing today’s appointment, Dayton said Jensen is “superbly well qualified to assume these enormous responsibilities.” Asked by reporters today about diversity in the Minnesota National Guard, Jensen said he has concerns about the Trump administration’s policy banning transgender people from serving in the military and he said service “should be open to everyone.” Jensen added that the National Guard in Minnesota is open, tolerant and inclusive and under his leadership will continue to be that way.
