Governor Mark Dayton is calling on lawmakers to agree to certain parameters to ensure a productive end to the current legislative session. In a letter sent today, Dayton urges legislative leaders to prioritize transparency and accountability. House Speaker Kurt Daudt says in the past, however, “it seems like it’s been the governor who’s forced us into closed-door sessions and he’s tried to exert the executive branch into the legislative process. Frankly we think it should be done better, so we agree with his letter. We wish in the past he’d felt this way.” Dayton says he wants all offers in writing, with bills available for public review. And he renewed his pledge not to call a special session if agreements on bills are not reached. Daudt says “we’ll see if he means what he says and if his commissioners show up equipped and ready to negotiate.”Dayton also says he wants joint budget targets set by May 11th, which Daudt says in not “unsreasonable.”
