Governor Mark Dayton calls a court challenge to Minnesota’s teacher tenure laws another right-wing attempt to dictate public policy through litigation. Dayton says evaluations to make sure the best teachers and principals are in Minnesota schools is something the state is already undertaking — and has been for the last five years. The lawsuit by a group of Minnesota parents and national groups alleges state laws protect teachers who should not be in the classroom — thereby perpetuating the achievement gap and violating the constitutional guarantee of a “thorough and efficient” education.
