Governor Mark Dayton says the focus will be on the Fishing Opener, not state budget negotiations, when he goes out on the Mississippi River at Saint Cloud this morning with House Speaker Kurt Daudt and Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka on board. “If you see somebody go overboard, then I’d be suspicious as to the cause,” Dayton joked. “I expect it to be social. We’re gonna go fishing.” The governor hasn’t done particularly well in past Fishing Openers, but his guide says river fishing offers many opportunities to bring in a big one.
And does House Speaker Daudt plan to talk with Dayton about the state budget when they’re out on the water? “I’m sure it will come up, but have a feeling it will be more about fun and hopefully we catch some fish,” Daudt says. “I’ve enjoyed fishing with the governor the last couple of years and this should be no exception.”
