Republican lawmakers and Governor Mark Dayton have agreed to use retired Judge Rick Solum as the mediator in the dispute over whether the governor’s veto of funding for the legislature was constitutional. On Friday, the Minnesota Supreme Court reversed a lower court, upholding the constitutionality of Dayton’s vetoes and ordered the two sides into mediation. The high court says the governor and Republicans should resolve their dispute through the political process–with the judicial branch intervening “only when absolutely necessary.”
