(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Mark Dayton in a closed-door meeting with legislative leaders later this morning (11am) renews his push for a special session on Iron Range unemployment benefits and job creation for north Minneapolis. His efforts were slowed down for a couple weeks due to back surgery. House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt (DOWT), wants assurances from the governor that he won’t hold up the PolyMet project. Dayton said earlier he won’t impede a review, if the final Environmental Impact Statement is judged adequate. Daudt responded he can’t trust that statement because Dayton’s actions don’t match his words. Today’s meeting comes before next Tuesday’s visit to the Iron Range by President Obama’s top advisor.
