A second day of closed-door meetings Thursday between Governor Mark Dayton and African American community leaders in the wake of the verdict in the Officer Jeronimo Yanez case. Sam Simmons says the community has been at this place before, and needs to figure out how *not* to end up here again. He says the governor “listened, more than he told us, and he really listened intently. We let them know that we support him, but we need to feel that we’re being supported in some of the things we’re suggesting.” Simmons says one item that came up quite a bit in discussions is holding police accountable with their own insurance. He says that would be a good first step.
