Governor Dayton says he will continue to push his $138 million school funding proposal “as hard as he can.” The governor was joined by educators and school administrators from around the state to renew his request for the funding. Dayton says “this is an emergency situation, this is one-time funding that provides a tourniquet and the next governor and legislature can face the chronic underfunding of our public schools.” Dayton today urged the legislature to “pass this legislation, to fit it into their existing budgets, that they snip away a few of those tax cuts for millionaires, multi-millionaires, they’ss have plenty of money to do this.” Republicans blame Dayton for focusing on programming, and not the classroom. And they say that in some cases the school districts are responsible. Dayton says his one-time funding proposal would provide around $126 per student in every Minnesota school district.
