As expected, Governor Mark Dayton has vetoed a bill requiring doctors to give women the opportunity to see an ultrasound image of the unborn child before an abortion. The governor says the bill “interferes with the doctor-patient relationship” and providers are “already fulfulling their… duties to fully inform their patients.” Scott Fischbach with Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life says that’s “a little bit inaccurate… Most individuals that go in for abortions have never met the abortionist, because it’s a one-time visit or a two-time visit at best. So there is no real abortionist relationship with the patient.”
Planned Parenthood says the legislation is “completely unnecessary since women already have the option to view to an ultrasound prior to an abortion.”
