Governor Tim Walz is chiding the legislature because Minnesota is the only state in the U-S that has not accepted federal election security money under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). The governor says no one has been able to explain to him what ideological differences are delaying action. “This is stupid to hold this one up,” he says. “If you [lawmakers] think there’s a leverage to be gained there, there’s not. The public can’t understand this one and I would just say, that’s one that should just move.”
The House and Senate differ on how much federal money the state should accept. Senate leaders indicated earlier they want full public discussion before the state takes the complete amount.
