Governor Tim Walz says he’s “feeling great” after minor surgery on his left knee last Thursday for a medial meniscus tear. “I was up and around on Friday without crutches,” the governor says. “I’ve been around just a little bit of swelling but I didn’t have to take any painkillers and I’m not on any Advil or anything, and just want to get back to running.”
Initial reports were that Walz would need another surgery for a similar tear in his right knee, but the governor said it feels better and his doctors told him that he might not have to undergo that procedure.
And the governor remembers a fellow runner this evening hen he presents a proclamation making this “Gabe Day” in Minnesota. It’s in honor of U-of-M runner Gabe Grunewald, an All-American from Perham who died earlier this month at age 33 after a ten-year battle with cancer. There’s a run/walk tonight in Grunewald’s memory at a park in northeast Minneapolis.
