Gov. Walz, LGBTQ advocates urging legislature to ban “conversion therapy” in Minnesota

February 14, 2020 By Bill Werner

This Valentine’s Day Governor Tim Walz joins L-G-B-T-Q advocates at the State Capitol, urging the legislature to ban “conversion therapy” in Minnesota. Walz calls the practice “byzantine and medieval”. “There is not something wrong with these children,” Walz says. “It’s who they are, and they need to be able to live their lives without this, again, unproven and harmful pseudoscience.”

But Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka opposes a ban on “conversion therapy.” He says counselors should *not* push young people in any direction they don’t want to go — but on the other hand, “to *not* be able to work with that adolescent in the direction that that adolescent wants to go… puts the government between that person and their professional counselor.”
