Governor Tim Walz says executive action is among options he’s researching to implement an insulin assistance program, after a deal blew up in the closing hours of the legislative session. “It is outrageous that people who need insulin can’t get it and we can’t make it more affordable,” the governor says. “It’s not acceptable to tell them to go to the emergency room to get it.”
Some are suggesting a special session around Labor Day. Walz says he’s willing to listen but is “a little bit unsure” about what could get done in that time, given he was “asking continuously” about the insulin program during regular session negotiations. The proposal was to have insulin manufacturers pay for the assistance program.
