Despite Governor Tim Walz’s call for open hearings, Republicans and Democrats resumed talks behind closed doors last week, trying to break their stalemate over an insulin assistance program. The governor said earlier, “Our intention is still to get this done before the holidays. Our intention is still to have a working compromise that works for Minnesotans.”
But the governor’s holiday wish might not be granted. This week’s Thanksgiving holiday shortens work time at the Capitol. Next week, lawmakers’ attention will be focused on an updated budget forecast. And the Christmas holidays are only a few weeks after that. The legislature goes back into session in February.
