Governor Walz–a military veteran–today responded after a high-ranking staffer in Minnesota’s DFL party tweeted yesterday calling the newly christened USS Minneapolis-St. Paul a “murder boat.” Walz says he’s “totally appalled by it, certainly, the disrespect shown is beyond the pale. I don’t know who the communications person is, I would certainly hope at the DFL they do take the appropriate response to this because there’s no place for that.” Walz adds he’s “disappointed. I think most folks know that those of us who serve are not Democrats or Republicans, they’re fellow service people, so I think that’s the case.” William Davis posted the tweet and later deleted it with an apology. DFL Chair Ken Martin also issued an apology, saying the tweet does not reflect the party’s feelings on the military.
