Governor Walz joined Minnesotans at the State Capitol today to call for an end to what some believe is the harmful practice of LGBTQ+ conversion “therapy.” Walz said to the assembled crowd “let’s get out of here before this session’s over adding our name to that list of states that have banned conversion therapy and made this world just a little bit better for everyone.” A ban on the controversial therapy passed in the House last session but stalled in the Senate. Majority Leader Paul Gazelka opposes a ban on “conversion therapy.” He says counselors should *not* push young people in any direction they don’t want to go — but on the other hand “to not be able to work with that adolescent in the direction that that adolescent wants to go… puts the government between that person and their professional counselor.” Proponents of the ban say similar laws have already been enacted 19 states–and have been signed into law by several GOP governors.
