Two months after the end of the legislative session, state lawmakers now say they’re very close to a bipartisan deal to help lower insulin costs. Democratic Senator Matt Little of Lakeville says “the only piece that really needs to be resolved is a funding mechanism. Otherwise, I guess I would say we’re 95% there, we have most of the details of what the bill looks like.” Little says the agreement would provide statewide access to small quantities of insulin for emergency use, and link patients to services for long term access to the insulin they need. Governor Walz is urging Republicans to agree to fund an insulin assistance program through a fee on manufacturers. But Republicans favor using taxpayer dollars from the state health care access fund. Walz says he’ll call a special session–once lawmakers agree to a funding solution. Here’s more with Senator Little:
