Gov. Walz says he’ll have decision Tuesday on Enbridge Line 3

February 11, 2019 By Bill Werner

Backers and opponents of Enbridge’s Line 3 can expect an indication tomorrow morning (Tues 9am) whether Governor Tim Walz will continue predecessor Mark Dayton’s legal challenge to the pipeline upgrade. Walz said Monday morning, “You can expect, as prescribed by law, that we will have a statement out and be prepared to answer any questions on that decision.”

The decision Governor Walz must make is whether to ask the state Public Utilities Commission to reconsider its earlier order allowing the project to move forward. The governor says his administration is sitting down with stakeholders individually.

Opponents warn Line 3 could damage water resources in northern Minnesota. Backers say the project had rigorous environmental review and will bring badly-needed jobs to that area of the state.
