Governor Tim Walz says he’s sending prayers to the family of Waseca Police Officer Arik Matson, who was shot in the head Monday night during an encounter with a suspect. At an event in Marshall the governor said, “Officer Matson’s shooting, certainly our hearts go out to he and his family. We’re getting updates. I know the condition is grave at this time.”
Officer Matson is in critical but stable condition at North Memorial in the Twin Cities. The suspect, 37-year-old Tyler Jonovsky of Waseca, was shot twice by police and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
