Governor Tim Walz today (Fri) signed the remaining state budget bills the legislature passed in a “wrap-up” special session last week, including the massive health and human services budget and the tax bill. And the political winners and losers? Hamline University analyst David Schultz notes Democrats got increased funding for education and the medical provider tax — but not a gas tax increase or a bonding bill. “The Democrats got a few things but, on balance, they didn’t get anywhere near what they would hope,” Schultz says. “To some extent I would say the Republicans might have come out slightly better.” He says that’s because Republicans didn’t want to spend more or increase taxes.
