Gov. Walz supports ban on sale of flavored e-cigarettes in Minnesota

October 3, 2019 By Bill Werner

Governor Tim Walz says he supports a total ban on flavored e-cigarettes in Minnesota, citing a significant increase in vaping by youth. Walz proposes “banning the flavors all across the board, to include menthol, which has always been a technique of getting at [the youth market] too.”

It appears any ban would require approval by the legislature, because the governor says his executive authority is limited. “I cannot ban flavored e-cigarettes at this point in time,” Walz says.

The Trump administration said last month it would ban the sale of most flavored e-cigarettes, including mint and menthol. E-cigarettes makers say those are popular varieties which should not be considered flavors.
