Governor Tim Walz this morning (1030am) unveils details of his expected 1.3-billion-dollar bonding proposal for state public works projects. He’ll make the announcement at the Upper Post Veterans Community at Fort Snelling. It’s not unusual for a Minnesota governor to make a bonding request larger than a billion dollars, but it *is* somewhat out of the norm for it to come in an odd-numbered year when the legislature is dealing with the full state budget. The legislature generally passes full-blown bonding bills in even-numbered years, but has frequently approved significantly smaller bills in the off years. Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says Walz’s 1.3-billion-dollar bonding request sounds like a good number for next year.
