Promoters say the number of clean energy jobs grew nearly four times faster than other jobs in Minnesota over the past year, and some lawmakers are pushing for the state to set a goal of 50 percent renewable energy by 2030. The current standard is 25 percent by 2025 and D-F-L Senator Nick Frentz from North Mankato says, “It’s worth noting we’re ahead of pace to meet that goal, which is part of why it’s so important for us to set a new mark and enforce it.”
Republican lawmakers have been resistant to increasing the renewable energy standard, but Senator Karin Housley from Saint Mary’s Point says as her colleagues learn more they’re “becoming more friendly to it.”
