A state board should be able to sanction law enforcement officers who don’t properly investigate cases of sexual assault and domestic abuse — so says a prominent coalition of advocates. The call comes from the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women and other groups after a recent Star Tribune report found problems in some parts of Minnesota with how sex assault cases are investigated. The groups say law enforcement agencies and prosecutors should be required to make public — without identifying victims — the number of sex assault cases reported, and how many are then investigated and prosecuted and receive convictions.
