The Minnesota House debates an education funding bill today that backers say prioritizes student safety in light of recent school shootings. But more money for school security — what’s called “hardening the target” — isn’t enough for those who continue demonstrating at the State Capitol. Lauren Morse-Wendt, a deacon at Edina Community Lutheran Church says, “The people will keep showing up until all of our children are safe, and that will happen through criminal background checks and stricter gun laws.”
Republican Speaker Kurt Daudt indicated Wednesday that some type of gun regulation bill could still move forward in the Minnesota House this session. He says, “They [the bills] probably would need some changes… but if they have support, they’ll get here to the floor and they’ll get voted out of this chamber.”
