If you’re in northern Minnesota, consider getting this year’s Christmas tree from the Superior National Forest. A permit to cut one tree costs five dollars — limit two per family. A permit to gather balsam boughs is 20 dollars. Kris Reichenbach with the Superior National Forest says, “It’s a nice tradition. We have a lot of people who come in every year and they pick up their permits and the families go out. They make it kind of an outing for the family.”
Fourth graders can get a free Christmas tree permit by completing on-line activities on the Every Kid in a Park website (everykidinapark.gov). There’s also information on the Superior National Forest website.
