State officials take citizen input this afternoon in Duluth on the revised environmental impact statement for Enbridge’s proposed Line 3 pipeline upgrade, which found minimal risk to Lake Superior from an oil spill. But Natalie Cook with the Sierra Club says the study didn’t examine Wisconsin waterways which are much closer to the big lake. “Oil and water and wetlands don’t care about our state boundaries. We would have really liked to have seen them look into that more directly,” Cook says.
Backers say Line 3 has had rigorous environmental review and they now anticipate the project will move forward. The decision rests with the state Public Utilities Commission after a public comment period which runs through January 6th.
