For the first time in its long history, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has an emotional support animal on staff. Barrett is a golden doodle (75 percent standard poodle/25 percent golden retriever combination) and is on a rigorous training schedule that officials say will give him the necessary skills to support employees, witnesses and victims. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says research suggests that having emotional support animals working in courthouses provides comfort to victims and witnesses and calls Barrett “a welcome and necessary addition to our office.”
