Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says he’s taking a leave of several weeks to deal with health issues. Freeman says after a physical exam his doctors and others suggested some time away from the high stress of his job to restore his physical well-being. The announcement comes a week after the high-profile murder conviction of a former Minneapolis police officer. Freeman’s chief deputies will take over day-to-day operations in his absence. Freeman says he fully expects to return “stronger and sharper and able to guide this office in its mission to protect the public safety and provide justice.”
