A major with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department was demoted and is on leave after his squad S-U-V was found abandoned in a ditch near a bar in northwestern Wisconsin last weekend, reports the Star Tribune. According to the accident report, Robert Staupe called Burnett County dispatch the next morning, saying he was the person who put the vehicle into the ditch after drinking alcohol but “not that much.” His wife told authorities earlier that someone else was driving. Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson says his department has “launched an internal employment investigation.”
