Residents outside of a 400 foot radius around the train derailment site in Ellendale are being allowed back into their homes following a mandatory evacuation and Highway 30 is back open. Just before six this morning, four Union Pacific Railroad cars derailed and at least one was carrying liquid petroleum gas, which is flammable. The Steele County Sheriff’s Office says there are no known injuries in the derailment. The railroad’s Hazardous Materials Management Team is on site, and the Minnesota Chemicals Assessment team is also helping. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
