One of Minnesota’s well-known historical landmarks, the North West Company Fur Post in Pine City, will soon be known as the Snake River Fur Post. Site Manager Patrick Schifferdecker says there’s historical reason for the name change. He notes the man who kept the journal at the fur post “talks about arriving on the Snake River and meeting with principal members of the band. The Objibwe people who were living here were referred to as the Snake River Band.”
The Minnesota Historical Society reconstructed the fur post and it’s been open to the public since 1970.
