State House Republicans are proposing significant changes to MNsure–that’s in response to last week’s announcement that rates for the next open enrollment period could go up by as much as 60-percent. Republicans are calling the increase a “crisis” and are pushing to reduce the MNsure tax by half and to transition Minnesota to the federal exchange to expand choices and cut costs. House minority leader Paul Thissen agrees the rate increases are too high, but he accuses Republicans of serving up “another round of empty promises at the end of the campaign” and he says they should answer for their inaction. In a news conference Wednesday, Republicans suggested a special session may be necessary to address the crisis.
