House Repubs try again to move “reinsurance” bill forward

March 20, 2019 By Bill Werner

House Republicans are again trying to move forward with health care “reinsurance” to hold down premiums which the Senate approved about a week ago, but Democrats say “no”. Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says under the governor’s plan, only people who buy health insurance through MNsure get a 20 percent reduction. “Other people who buy their insurance in the individual marketplace will get screwed,” Daudt says. “That’s what happens under the governor’s plan.”

Rochester Democrat Tina Liebling responds some Minnesotans paid higher premiums under Republicans’ reinsurance plan. “It is a verifiable fact, and you can yell that it’s not true, you can get really mad about the fact, you can go on and on and keep repeating yourself over and over. It is still a fact,” Liebling says.
