House Republicans warn that Democrats are preparing to raise Minnesotans’ taxes by continuing a two-percent health care provider tax scheduled to go away at year’s end. G-O-P leader Kurt Daudt says, “The easiest thing to do… is to increase a tax. It shows that you’re not willing to look for savings and find efficiencies and do what’s right — what we know we should do.”
Rochester Democrat Tina Liebling responds the provider tax helps fund Medicaid — what’s called Medical Assistance in Minnesota. She says, “Many, many elderly people, people with disabilities, people with very low incomes, many of our poorest children would be losing health care under their plan.”
