A man from Hugo is now facing federal charges, after a grand jury indicted him for allegedly firing a rifle into the back of the head of his sister’s boyfriend, during a funeral for the suspect’s grandmother. Prosecutors say 28-year-old Shelby Boswell opened fire October 21st in a gymnasium on the Fond du Lac Reservation in northeastern Minnesota. The victim, a 45-year-old Minneapolis man, had non-life-threatening injuries. Carlton County Attorney Lauri Ketola says state charges against Boswell have been dropped because federal prosecution “provides the greatest consequences for Mr. Boswell’s alleged crimes.”
