Officials are reminding Minnesotans that our “January thaw” has deteriorated ice on many lakes. Two recent examples: A father and his four-year-old daughter from Alexandria had to be rescued from atop their utility vehicle after it broke through the ice on Lake Ida. And on Sunday a Columbia Heights man and his passenger were able to escape from their pickup after it went through the ice on Horseshoe Lake in Stearns County.
