Expect most Minnesota cities with municipal liquor stores to have them open Sundays when the ban is lifted in July. Paul Kaspzak with the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association says most of his members will take advantage of the opportunity, many reluctantly because other states report about the same amount of sales. He says in other states, “Things that people used to buy on Saturday, people are now buying on Sunday. And as a matter of fact, the trend of customers was… that they used to buy more on Saturday…., just to make sure that they had enough to carry over into the weekend.”
Meanwhile, the head of another group predicts most privately-owned liquor stores in Minnesota will be open Sundays — but warns competition from big-box stores could make it difficult for some of them to survive.
