Quinn Nystrom, a leading advocate at the State Capitol for a insulin assistance program, has launched a bid for U-S House in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, a seat currently held by Republican Pete Stauber. Nystrom was leery when state Senate Republicans proposed drug makers provide free insulin to those who can’t afford it. “For them [Republican lawmakers] just to think, okay, we’re gonna ask them [drug manufacturers] to do it, I think there’s gonna have to be a strong penalty or a strong cost of doing business if they do not comply,” Nystrom said.
Minnesota Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan says Nystrom is entering the race for Congress even though national Democrats dropped the 8th District from their list of top targets. Carnahan says it acknowledges the 8th is being well represented by Republican Congressman Stauber.
