Ryder Cup member Zach Johnson grew up in Iowa, but now lives in Georgia. He says he is happy to be playing the 2016 Ryder Cup so close to his Iowa roots. Johnson says in addition to his family and many friends from Iowa who are in Minnesota this week, he’s heard from Iowa natives in the gallery all week. When asked if it was okay for Minnesotans to “adopt” him as the home state player this week, he said, “Yeah, I’ll take it.” He was also quick to point out that Minnesotan Tom Lehman, who is a vice captain on the team, is the true native son. Johnson and Team U-S-A hit the course tomorrow morning to take on Europe at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.
Ryder Cup competition begins tomorrow, but Johnson has been in Minnesota playing practice rounds this week. Johnson grew up in Cedar Rapids and attended Drake University in Des Moines. He currently resides in Georgia.
