ISAIAH accuses lawmakers of allowing payday lenders to take advantage of the poor

A new report accuses state lawmakers — Democrats and Republicans alike — of bowing to pressure from big campaign contributors and allowing payday lending companies to continue charging exorbitant interest rates to poor Minnesotans. Reverend Grant Stevensen with ISAIAH says the owner of Payday America is one of the largest contributors to the Republican Party of Minnesota and a very large contributor to the Minnesota D-F-L Party as well.  “There’s a lot of money flowing into campaign funding and to the political parties, and in some cases to candidates for office themself.”  The group is asking elected officials in Minnesota to pledge that they’ll no longer take any money from the payday lending industry.
