Minnesota officials at the Council on American-Islamic Relations say their review of Tuesday’s Republican precinct caucuses found no reports of people of the Muslim faith being denied access. Spokesman Jaylani Hussein says they were concerned after comments about Muslim “infiltration,” and a proposed resolution requiring attendees to denounce Sharia law. He says, “Fortunately also, …[from] our understanding at this point, [it] was not adopted in any of the precincts that we’ve had people report to us.”
Hussein says hopefully it will not recur, but “more than likely this type of rhetoric will continue and have to be continuously pushed back against.”
Minnesota GOP Chair Jennifer Carnahan said anyone can offer anything as a resolution at precinct caucuses but the Republican Party of Minnesota “would never shut our doors to anyone who wants to be involved.”
