A number of new laws are officially on the books in Minnesota now that it’s August. Penalties go up substantially for repeat drunken drivers who kill someone. The law was prompted by the 2012 death of five-month-old Drake Bigler. His family’s vehicle was hit by a driver with two previous DWI convictions who got four years in prison. The statute of limitations increases from three years to five for certain identity theft crimes. And if you’re getting married, no five-day waiting period any more from when you apply for a marriage license; it can now be issued immediately — as long as age requirements are met.
