It’s county fair time in Minnesota, a big part of that is animal exhibits, and the state Board of Animal Health says it’s owners’ responsibility to ensure their livestock are healthy. Doctor Courtney Wheeler says events may have different vaccination requirements. She adds, “We do require that all animals are inspected by an official veterinarian upon arrival at the exhibition and that they are inspected every day thereafter throughout the exhibition.”
Wheeler says animals should also have official identification. “It’s really important because, in the event of a disease outbreak, we use that information to track animals that may have been exposed to disease or may have something communicable and contagious,” she says.
