Governor Dayton has proclaimed this “Justice Alan Page Day”, in honor of the retired state supreme court justice–and Pro Football Hall of Famer–who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Friday. The proclamation was announced at Justice Page Middle School in Minneapolis at an assembly in Page’s honor. Page says the school is “like home for me, and it’s like family being a part of this community and having this community be a part of my life–it’s pretty special.” Page says the Medal of Freedom means the work done by him and his late wife Diane Sims Page with the Page Education Foundation has been valued. The foundation has offered scholarships to students of color for more than three decades. Asked what he plans to do next, the 73-year-old says with a smile, he’s still “trying to figure out what he’s going to do” when he grows up.
