Organizers of the 26th annual Brainerd Jaycee’s ice fishing Extravaganza have decided to postpone the tournament until February 6th says Co-chair Angie Nelson. The tournament was supposed to be held this weekend.
Nelson says that the ice conditions on the Gull lake are fine now but, “We just have to be sure that the safety of all participants is first on our minds and we just need a little more time.”
Ice thickness on Gull lake ranged from nine inches to 14 inches. The extravaganza, with $150,000 in prizes, is expected to draw between eight-thousand and 12-thousand people. The 62nd Annual Pelican Rapids ice fishing derby on Lake Lida which was also planned for next Saturday, has been moved to February 6th, again because of unsafe ice.
