The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) is condemning the shooting at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh–which left 11 dead and several more wounded. The JCRC’s Steve Hunegs says “it was a heinious, dastardly terrorist attack made worse if possible, by the by the fact that it targeted people at prayer at Shabbat services.” Hunegs calls the assault a direct attack on Judaism and America’s Jewish community. Hunegs says his first concern is “with the fabric of humanity–that is and we’re deeply concerned with our brothers and sisters in Pittsburgh, both in the Jewish Community and beyond the Jewish Community, time will bring healing, but, of course, in the immediate aftermath, of course, there’s terrible suffering.” The JCRC is working with local law enforcement to bolster community security in the wake of the attack. Hunegs says since Saturday’s attack, there’s been “an almost bottomless reservoir of goodwill” from people throughout the state.
