The latest numbers show job growth in Minnesota’s “leisure and hospitality” sector is well above nearly all other areas — no surprise to state jobs analyst Steve Hine. He says, “If you’ve gone out to try to get a table at a restaurant on a weekend — or even on a Tuesday night — the restaurant sector has been very strong.”
Hine says analysts keep a close eye on the hospitality and retail sectors for any sign that consumers are reducing discretionary spending — but he says “right now we’re seeing quite the opposite… robust spending and strong employment growth in those areas that are most sensitive to economic conditions.”
